James Cameron talks Avatar sequels

James Cameron has been doing plenty of talking concerning the Avatar sequels of late, and his most recent soundbite concerns his desire to avoid the pitfalls experienced by fellow sci-fi sequel, The Matrix Reloaded. Cameron’s main concern is that the story arc should come to a definitive close at the end of part three, with the audience left with a satisfying conclusion, rather than a ton of unanswered questions. “It’s a little bit of a daunting writing task because it’s two scripts and they’ve both gotta be done at the same time,” says Cameron. “I’m writing it as separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of the first film.” “I don’t want to suffer from the Matrix 2 problem, where it just ends, like, what the hell? It’s gotta end. There’s gotta be a sense of conclusion, but also a sense that the journey will continue, and that’s a fine line.” Cameron expects that pre-production will begin on the sequels in January, with Avatar 2 faintly pencilled in for a 2015 release date. Those little blue men aren’t about to disappear any time soon...
