The Girl Who Played With Fire could continue without Daniel Craig
Feb 1st 2013, 12:22

Having grappled long and hard over budget on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it's understood that Sony are tightening the pursestrings over David Fincher's proposed sequel, which may move forward without Daniel Craig, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The first film cost a hefty $90m to make, and despite taking $233m worldwide, Sony are keen to restrict the budget second time out.

Blomkvist plays a pared-back role in the second story, which focuses largely on Rooney Mara's character, Lisbeth Salander. But it's hard to imagine Blomkvist being cut from Steve Zaillian's script without the need for major rewrites.

Blomkvist and Salander's separate plot threads converge over the course of the next two stories (The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest), and much of the dramatic meat comes from the odd-couple pairing.

However, whether Fincher would want to remain on the project would be up for debate. Craig was his choice first time out, and with Sony looking to cut costs at every turn, it may represent a proposition that's more trouble than it's worth...

First images from The Raid 2
Feb 1st 2013, 10:28

The first images have arrived from Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, with work having kicked off on a 100-day shoot in Jakarta, Indonesia. The new film will pick up where the original left off with Rama (Iko Uwais) leaving the first film’s infamous high-rise in order to infiltrate a Jakarta crime syndicate. The stakes are as high as ever, with Rama looking to expose police corruption and protect his family from harm into the bargain. The new images are suitably mean and moody, with Rama looking ready for action and already bearing some battle-wounds. Looks like he’ll have a whole new cartel of bad-guys to inflict some hurt on!

Directed by Evans, the film is expected to arrive in 2014, with the director claiming it will be “bigger, better and bloodier!” We can hardly wait…

Watch: New World War Z Super Bowl trailer
Feb 1st 2013, 10:00

Just when you thought you'd seen every kind of zombie possible, World War Z's Super Bowl trailer throws a few new surprises into the undead mix.

The latest 30-second spot brings the global problem into sharp contrast, with countries being wiped out ("China's down!"), zombies wreaking havoc in planes mid-flight, and a split-second shot of a zombie leaping horizontally into the screaming masses.

The trailer, which will receive its on-air debut during the Super Bowl on Sunday 5 February, rehashes its major selling points - lots of Brad Pitt, lots of CGI zombies, and lots of global carnage.

World War Z opens in the UK on 21 June 2013.

New featurette for A Good Day to Die Hard: watch now
Jan 31st 2013, 22:43

A Good Day To Die Hard has released a new featurette including some new footage from the movie as well as a few more nuggets of info surrounding the plot.

"It is a way of life that trouble finds John McClane" says Bruce Willis, demonstrating a significant mastery of the understatement. This time around, his son is staring down the barrel of a prison sentence in Russia, so John naturally heads out there to smooth things out.

Little does he know that there's far more to the situation than first meets the eye, with McClane Jr. embroiled in a fiendish plot involving some nasty Euro-baddies. Fortunately, his Pa has plenty of experience in that field, and is soon rolling up his sleeves to lend a hand.

Take a look at the new featurette, below…

There's a nice look at the dynamic between father and son, which looks to be where much of the movie's humour will come from. And of course, there's plenty of explodey nonsense for us to feast our eyes on…

Directed by John Moore and co-staring Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney, A Good Day To Die Hard will open in the UK on 14 February 2013.

First Synopsis for Fast & Furious 6
Jan 31st 2013, 22:25

While we've received a steady drip feed of new images from upcoming action sequel Fast & Furious 6, we've not learned much in the way of plot details. However, that's all changed thanks to the arrival of a new plot synopsis…

The film follows on from the events of Fast Five, although this time Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson will be on the same team. That's a whole lot of muscle right there…

Check out the new synopsis below:

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Paul Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Luke Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).

The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

OTT action ahoy then! Directed by Justin Lin and co-starring Jordana Brewster, Gina Carano and Tyrese Gibson, Fast & Furious 6 will open in the UK on 24 May 2013.

Edgar Wright talks The World's End
Jan 31st 2013, 23:02

With The World's End releasing a brand spanking new image online, director Edgar Wright has been doing his bit to stoke excitement in the project by discussing a little of what we can expect from his latest team-up with Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

"It’s a boy’s night out movie gone wrong," explains the director. "Shaun was about where we live – our neighbourhood in North London. And then Hot Fuzz was about going back home. Home for me and Simon in terms of a small town. But this one is about looking backwards."

"It’s more nostalgic. I think a lot about my adolescence and my teenage years and things I’d do differently. I have grand fantasies of going back in time and doing things better. Back to when I was 15 or 16. So there’s an element of that – whether it’s healthy to look or go backwards. That’s kind of what the theme of the film is.”

He also goes on to explain how the film will fit into the Blood & Ice Cream trilogy as a whole, and how it compares to American comedies that touch on similar themes.

"I think this one is our way of wrapping up, with some formality, the man-child aspect of the series. There’s an element within all of the movies that’s about growing up. Shaun has to grow up to be a hero. In Hot Fuzz Nick Angel has to dumb down to Andy’s level to save the day."

"There’s a lot of American comedies in the last 10 years that have been about man children or dealing with responsibility. But I feel that they never get too deep under the surface. They bring up some aspects but don’t delve into them very deeply. And I think here we tried to skewer those movies in a sense.”

Co-starring Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike and Eddie Marsan, The World's End will open in the US on 25 October 2013, with a UK date to be confirmed.
