Jack The Giant Slayer: exclusive poster
Jan 30th 2013, 17:40

Jack The Giant Slayer will hit cinemas in March 2013, and we’ve got our hands on an exclusive poster.

Bryan Singer directs the fairytale revamp, which pitches Nicholas Hoult’s plucky farmboy against a newly awakened army of towering ogres.

After accidentally opening the gateway to their world, Jack must venture up the infamous beanstalk to rescue a kidnapped princess.

The poster pitches Jack face-to-face with an armoured giant, and hints at the fun, vibrant tone Singer’s going for. It's also the first time we've really got a sense of the scale of those bad boys...

Co-starring Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane and Eleanour Tomlinson, Jack The Giant Slayer opens in the UK on 22 March 2013.

Total Film News: Brad Bird’s 1952 gets a new title

Brad Bird's 1952 gets a new title
Jan 30th 2013, 17:53

Brad Bird's long-awaited sci-fi passion project 1952 has been given a snappy new title.

Deadline has uncovered a litte of the mysticism surrounding the film. Previously known as 1952, the project will henceforth be known as: Tomorrowland.

It has also received a green light from Disney, with confirmation of the previous report that George Clooney will be starring in it, and a release date set for December 2014.

It is still early days but the new title has piqued our interest, and it keeps the guessing game fully in motion. So what parts of the puzzle can we piece together so far?

We know that the House of Mouse isn't shy about exploring the possibillities of the universe, recently taking on board the Star Wars franchise, as well as this project.

The central plot is said to revolve around a man's contact with alien life on earth, with Clooney being chosen as the man for the job. Damon Lindelof and Jess Jensen are behind the script, and it's thought to be in a similar tone to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.

New moniker Tomorrowland gives the film a fresh new facelift - 1952 sounded a bit old and dusty, and the latest title adds a retro-futuristic vibe to the proceedings, suggesting it might have something more to offer than your average generic piece.

On thing's certain: it is definitely not a sequel to the indie-comedy Adventureland starring Jesse Eisenberg.

Given Bird's background - and based on the talk that it is more in the tone of Spielberg than Michael Bay - we are expecting the meet-and-greet with other worlds to have an emotional kick, more like Super 8 than the clean-cut carnage of Transformers.

Either way this is the recipe for an intelligent and thought-provoking adventure that is bound to say something about 'humanity' before the end credits roll.

Tomorrowland will open in the US on 19 December 2014.

World exclusive Bullet to the Head clip: Muscle-off!
Jan 30th 2013, 16:01

Sylvester Stallone may be in his mid-60s, but that doesn't mean he's easing up in the action stakes - as our muscle-tastic world exclusive clip from Bullet to the Head shows.

The old-school action romp stars Stallone as a hitman who teams up with a young detective (Sung Kang) to bring down a nefarious pumped up bad guy (played by Conan the Barbarian himself, Jason Momoa).

Our clip has Stallone and his nemesis squaring off in a man-off of the most ludicrously testosterone-laden proportions.

And then the gloves come off and the axes come out....

Danny Boyle's Trance gets a US poster
Jan 30th 2013, 15:35

Trance, the mind-bending new thriller from Danny Boyle, has released a new US poster.

Featuring star James McAvoy’s angry-face, hidden under a layer of distortion that looks something like a VHS-pause gone wrong, it’s enough to give you a migraine. Which was probably the desired effect, as the exclusive UK one-sheet we got our hands on was similarly trippy.

Trance stars McAvoy as an art-auctioneer who makes off with an extremely valuable painting, only to forget where he’s hidden it. Rosario Dawson’s hypnotherapist steps in to raid his brain for clues when his criminal accomplices get antsy for their loot.

Frankly, anything Boyle did after confirming his National Treasure™ status with the 2012 Olympics’ opening ceremony would warrant your full attention, and the brain-busting premise and appealing cast are just very welcome bonuses.

Check out the new poster in full below:

Trance opens in the UK on 27 March 2013, and will have a limited release in the US from 5 April 2013.

First official images from sequel The Muppets... Again!
Jan 30th 2013, 15:51

The Muppets 2 (AKA The Muppets... Again!) the upcoming sequel to the riotously popular The Muppets, has released a first batch of official images.

The stills feature Gervais and the Muppets clowning around on the London Underground. From the looks of things, this'll be once again be making good use of the wide selection of hand-puppet characters on offer, with plenty of familiar faces on show. And Walter's back!

Jim Henson’s fuzzy-felt creations were given a new lease of life by 2011’s The Muppets, a heart-swelling nostalgia-thon that played up to the fact that Kermit and co had fallen out of favour with the public.

That film saw the Muppets re-teaming to put on a show to raise the necessary cash to save their beloved theatre. This time around, the gang are heading off on a European jaunt that should hark back to the classic Muppet movie capers of their golden era.

While Jason Segel isn’t returning for this outing, director James Bobin and writer Nicholas Stoller are back. And - praise be! - Flight Of The Conchords star Bret McKenzie will reprise the musical duties that landed him an Oscar for the first film.

Bobin said of the sequel, "It’s great to be back working with the Muppets, some of them even remember my name occasionally now. As for the movie, it’s a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the ’60s, but featuring a frog, a pig, a bear and a dog - no panthers, even pink ones - along with the usual Muppet-y mix of mayhem, music and laughs."

Check out the new images in full below:

[Click on the images to see them in hi-res]

Starring Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, Ty Burrell and - we’re guessing - a bunch of celebrity cameos, The Muppets... Again! opens in the UK on 21 March 2014.

Robert Rodriguez says he'd direct a Han Solo Star Wars spin-off
Jan 30th 2013, 16:02

Robert Rodriguez will have Star Wars fanboys-and-girls bubbling with excitement at the admission that he'd be up for directing a Han Solo spin-off.

In a chat with MTV, the Sin City, Desperado and Spy Kids filmmaker said, "I don't mind them doing more Star Wars. I also like the whole idea of them doing off-shoot films, like you just have a Boba Fett movie over here.

"There's so much you can do. George has built such an enormous world... Who's going to live up that? It's almost like they should just branch it out, and let people play with those characters. There's such rich stuff."

Rodriguez goes on to explain the influence George Lucas' space operas had on him, and thinks that the bearded director would suggest he created his own sci-fi universe.

But Rodriguez admits that, if pressed, he wouldn't be able to resist doing a Han Solo movie. "If there was something that somebody said, 'Here, Han Solo, his own adventures.' I'd go do that."

While it's all just banter at this stage, it's enough to incite feverish alternate-universe daydreams of what might be. The only problem is, who could convincingly essay a young Harrison Ford?

Rodriguez is currently working on comic-book sequel/prequel Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, which is earmarked for a 4 October 2013 release. He has also wrapped shooting on Mexploitation follow-up Machete Kills, due out in September 2013.
