Sony's adap of The Girl Who Played With Fire due in 2014

Lisbeth Salander will be making a return to the big screen with The Girl Who Played With Fire, the English-language sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher and released in December 2011, received strong reviews despite coming just two years after the Swedish version of Stieg Larsson’s acclaimed novel. Though Fincher’s shown interest in continuing the series and adapting the remaining two titles in Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, Sony has been reticent about confirming it’s going ahead with the adaptations. Now, EW report that The Girl Who Played With Fire will be getting the green light, and should be heading into cinemas sometime in 2014. Fincher may not be getting back behind the camera, though, not least because he’s busily developing his first TV show, House Of Cards, with Kevin Spacey.

There's also the matter of budget restrictions which means he could simply be too expensive to hire. Three people definitely returning are scriptwriter Steve Zaillian, and on-screen duo Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, the latter two having both been contracted for the entire trilogy.
