With news about Kareena Kapoor losing out on playing Juliet in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, Ram Leela, the spotlight is on the highly-debated pregnancy clause in Bollywood. According to the clause, actresses cannot get pregnant during the course of the making of the film. While this is not new to Bollywood, it has still created a stir. Well, here's a quick look at other actresses who had to be replaced or turned down with an offer.

Kareena Kapoor: After Heroine failed to impress the audience and critics alike, Kareena is back in the news for losing out on a role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s (SLB) Ram Leela. As per reports, Bebo had to opt out of SLB’s highly anticipated project which is based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Buzz is that the actress refused to sign the no pregnancy clause in her contract following which SLB apparently offered Deepika Padukone the role of Leela in the film.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene: It's not just Kareena; Madhuri Dixit-Nene too had to sign a clause stating she cannot get married or pregnant during the making of Subhash Ghai’s Khalnayak in 1993. It was also the same time when Madhuri was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Sanjay Dutt.

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan
: Before the makers of Heroine zeroed down on Kareena Kapoor to play the protagonist in the film, it was Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who was to be signed for the same. Ash had to be dropped because she got pregnant during the making of the film. Reports even suggested director Madhur Bhandarkar blamed the former Miss World for hiding her pregnancy news.

Lara Dutta: The case is not just restricted to Bollywood. Even the advertising fraternity has initiated similar clauses stating their brand endorsers, usually film actresses, cannot get pregnant during their contract period. When Lara Dutta was abruptly replaced by advertisers of a cereal brand she endorsed, the actress was very disappointed.

Does Bollywood need a no pregnancy clause for their actresses? Leave us a comment and let us know.
