I am not a sucker for Bollywood; neither can I make sense of inexplicable song and dance sequences nor warped plots that jump out of the window without any notice. So, for many years I have consciously stayed away from ‘entertaining’ myself – yeah that’s the word friends and acquaintances use to define cinema. However, being a film buff, I do indulge in mainstream cinema once in a while, just for a feel-good experience if you ask.

Today being Ranbir Kapoor’s birthday, I cannot ignore the fact that I finally like an actor – simply for being part of films ‘with a heart’! Because as an audience, I seriously don’t find any reason why I should even care about box office figures.

Around 10 films old, Ranbir comes across as an ambitious, but more importantly a committed performer. I prefer watching this actor, because here is someone who can effortlessly keep you hooked, unlike those who find it so hard even to adhere to clichés and routine practices on the big screen.

When I talk of RK, I am reminded of Wake up Sid, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Rockstar and more recently Barfi! To me, all these managed to make me come out of the theatre smiling. Notwithstanding how the overall film was, I was satiated by Ranbir's innate ability to create characters which were closer to life.

I am no film critic, but certainly the audience, who makes cinema worth everything. Isn’t it?

And as much as I am a non-believer of run-of-the-mill entertainment, I will go to the theatre to watch Ranbir’s new releases. Oh did we tell you the actor is shooting on his 30th birthday? That's so not cool...however, here's wishing the cutie a very Happy Birthday! :)
