Production has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man 2. How do we know? Well, direct Marc Webb has tweeted a behind-the-scenes image to prove it.

Don't get too excited, as there's no glimpse of Andrew Garfield in the tweaked suit, nor are new villains Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti in shot.

Instead, Webb's first production still focusses on 'Phil the camera operator', and much of the online buzz surrounding image has zeroed in on the fact that it looks like the sequel will be shot on film, as opposed to digital 3D.

The Amazing Spider-Man shot with Red Epic 3D cameras, which resulted in a slickness to the stereoscopy that leant itself to the acrobatic action. At this stage it's unclear whether or not Spidey 2 will get a post-conversion to add the extra dimension, or if the camera pictured will actually be used for much of the shoot.

Either way, it's exciting to know that the sequel will soon be in full swing. And we've got a feeling Webb's Twitter account will be an interesting one to follow over the coming months.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in the UK on 18 April 2014.
