Super Bowl Movie Trailers Round-Up 2013: Star Trek, Oz, Lone Ranger and more Feb 4th 2013, 11:03 The 2013 Super Bowl isn’t only worth following if you’re a sports fan: as it’s pretty much the most watched TV event in the US, advertisers are keen to flog their wares in front of all those eyeballs. Movies are no exception, with the Super Bowl offering a podium for the biggest cinematic releases of the year ahead. This year, Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious 6, Oz The Great And Powerful, The Lone Ranger and Star Trek Into Darkness all revealed shiny new TV spots, which you can watch below. Oz The Great And Powerful didn’t offer up a wealth of new footage, but it did a decent job of reiterating the prequel’s cinematic heritage. From the looks of things, the witches are going to pinch scenes left, right and centre. And those winged apes will likely be the source of nightmares for a younger generation of moviegoers. Watch the Oz The Great And Powerful Super Bowl trailer below: Oz The Great And Powerful opens in the UK on 8 March 2013. “I am better.” “ At what?” “Everything!” Bold claims from Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison in the TV spot for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. Focussing primarily on the thespian threat of the Cumbervillain, the 30-second spot still finds time to reveal some fresh carnage being unleashed on Earth. And the Enterprise just can't stop crashing into things. Watch the Star Trek Into Darkness Super Bowl trailer below: Star Trek Into Darkness opens in the UK on 17 May 2013. Meanwhile, The Lone Ranger spot gives us possibly our most exciting glimpse at the character’s revival yet. After setting the scene with a bit of moody backstory for the masked lawman, the trailer lets rip with some pleasingly inventive action (much of it train-based). And in case you missed it, the Iron Man 3 Super Bowl spot was possibly the most triumphant of the entire event. The one everyone was waiting for didn’t disappoint, not least because of its playful opening gambit, which proves that charisma-supernova Robert Downey Jr.’s face can sustain interest better than any explosion. Lastly, the Super Bowl trailer for Fast & Furious 6 served up all the stupendous action and ludicrous macho posturing that fans of the franchise could possibly hope for.
