New clip from The Master: watch now

The Master has released a new clip online in which Philip Seymour Hoffman's cult leader embarks upon one of his mesmerising motivational speeches, as listened to by Joaquin Phoenix's rudderless former-soldier. Hoffman plays a charismatic writer and thinker, whose personal religion is beginning to spread through '50s America. Phoenix on the other hand, plays a drifter with a heavy drinking problem and a tendency towards sudden bouts of violence. The two men are brought together by blind chance, but soon strike an accord, with Phoenix's character becoming Hoffman's number two in the organisation. However, it isn't long before his erratic nature bubbles back to the surface, putting the success of the cult under serious threat. Take a look at the new clip, below… Once again, Phoenix appears to be stealing the show here, his gritted teeth and physical tics suggesting a coiled spring of a man. Johnny Greenwood's score also deserves a mention, serving as it does to create an air of confusion and mental disarray. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and co-starring Amy Adams and Laura Dern, The Master opens in the UK on 9 November 2012. We've got extremely high hopes for this one...
