First video footage from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim?
Nov 22nd 2012, 16:39

A new promo video for Guillermo del Toro's production company, Mirada, has appeared online. While that in itself may not sound newsworthy, hidden inside we just might get the briefest of glimpses at the director's forthcoming blockbuster release, Pacific Rim. Released yesterday, the video showcases the amazing work his FX team do as highlighted by the examples of Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and even Disney's Mickey Mouse. However, the biggest intrigue of all comes at 1 minute 15 seconds into the video as we catch a potential glimpse at one of the robots from del Toro's 2013 blockbuster hopeful. Check out the video below:

The clip is brief at best, but we're never one to turn down giant robots with rocket launchers up their sleeves. Indeed, this could be a glimpse of the all important Jaeger robots set to be controlled by our two unlikely heroes (Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi) as they try to battle the legions of monstrous sea creatures known as Kaiju. While it's not yet clear if the giant mechanoid, which comes across as something like Iron Man meets the Iron Giant, is actually taken from Pacific Rim, GdT can't be working on that many films featuring ginormous robots, can he? Del Toro admitted at Comic-Con this year that there would be no footage released until Christmas. Perhaps he's just too excited to wait? We'll have to wait and see. Pacific Rim is set to hit UK screens on the 12 July 2013, with the option to view it in IMAX 3D. Idris Elba and Charlie Day are also set to feature.
