Bruce Campbell talks Evil Dead remake
Oct 23rd 2012, 08:35

Bruce Campbell has done more than his fair share of legwork in promoting Fede Alvarez’s upcoming reboot of The Evil Dead, but the lantern-jawed star has still found time to give the project another push in a new interview with Machinima. Explaining what we can expect from the film, Campbell stresses that this is a departure from the screwball comedy of the last two films, and a return to the genuine fear created by the original. “The movie is not funny,” he explains. “The movie is old-fashioned, retro horror. There’s not a snappy line in the whole movie. The first movie wasn’t like that and this is a remake of the first movie. He’s matching the tone of the first movie which is not har-de-har-har.” So if the film isn’t remotely comedic, how did Bruce contribute in his role as producer? “We got our little fingers in this pie, man,” says Campbell reassuringly. “We want to custom-make it for fans. We’re not some random cigar-chomping producers looking for a horror movie to remake. This is our baby.” And having seen the movie, Campbell is convinced that audiences are going to be suitably scared out of their wits. “It’s going to be a horror extravaganza,” he says. “Not in terms of size, but in terms of the intensity of the horror you will experience. This movie is going to blow the fricking doors off. It’s just five new actors and a nasty book they should have left alone." Evil Dead will open in the UK on 12 April 2013.
