Lee Daniels in talks for Janis Joplin biopic

Lee Daniels’ next project may well be a biopic of troubled rock and roll star Janis Joplin, with the director reportedly in talks to helm the independently financed project. Another biopic named Joplin has long been mooted in Hollywood, but Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can is looking to leap-frog it, with producer Ron Terry targeting as early a start as possible. Happily for him, a star already appears to be attached, with Amy Adams apparently in place to play the title role. Not too shabby for a project that appears to have sprung from nowhere. For those not up on their ‘60s rock, Joplin was the voice behind a string of hits such as Summertime, Piece Of My Heart and Me And Bobby McGee. She was part of the famous Woodstock festival of 1969, but passed away just over a year later after a drug overdose. If Daniels and Adams both sign on, expect the singer to be big news once again, with this one seemingly having “awards bait” written all over it…
