Guillermo del Toro gives an update on his DC Comics team-up movie

Guillermo del Toro has been in the news a great deal of late, as he’s been promoting the release of Jessica Chastain-starring chiller Mama (on which he’s the executive producer).

So over the past few days he’s been answering various questions about Star Wars: Episode VII, At The Mountains Of Madness, his Hulk TV show, and more.

When asked about his DC Comics supernatural team-up in an interview with IGN, del Toro confirmed, “Yeah, yeah, we're doing it. I'm working on the outline and we're in talks with a writer. A very, very good writer. He accepted.”

While del Toro was reluctant to enter into plot specifics, he did say that the project, currently going under the working title Dark Universe, would feature Swamp Thing, The Demon, John Constantine, Deadman, The Spectre, Zatanna and Zatara.

And in an interview with The Playlist, del Toro also confirmed that there might still be hope for his setback-plagued adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness.

“I'm going to try it one more time. Once more into the dark abyss," he told The Playlist. "We're gonna do a big presentation of the project again at the start of the year and see if any [studio's] interested.

“Tom [Cruise] is still attached. I think it would be so fantastic to make it with him. He's been such a great ally of the project.”

And del Toro also explained that things have gone quiet on his Hulk TV show. “After The Avengers there's been complete radio silence. I had one more meeting after Avengers with Jeph Loeb from Marvel and he said, 'We're working on it, we're waiting for a writer,' he gave me the name of the writer and their resume and I said, 'That sounds great, let's wait for him' because we had delivered a teleplay and I haven't heard since then.”

With so much on his plate, it sounds like it might be sensible for Hulk to go on the backburner for the time being…

Mama opens in the UK on 22 February 2012.
